Volleyball sets or games

Most portable sets have telescoping or sectioned poles. Portable sets are less expensive than permanent sets. As a general rule, most recreational players looking for a volleyball set for occasional use outdoors will be happy with a portable volleyball set that can go to the park or the beach. A typical portable volleyball set for home use has several components. With these items, you should be able to begin playing immediately without any additional equipment.

Poles: In many at-home volleyball sets, the poles collapse down to a smaller size to be more portable, and some are telescoping. Other poles consist of multiple sections that you have to assemble. The poles in an at-home set have a smaller diameter and are lighter than poles in a permanent set.

Most high-level permanent volleyball sets designed for competitive play only include the regulation poles and regulation net and no other gear.

These items will consist of high-quality materials and construction, ensuring an excellent level of game play. Stakes: The poles in a volleyball set intended for outdoor use are secured to the ground using ropes and stakes, similar to those used to secure a tent. Net: The net attaches securely to the poles, and the poles are positioned so the net is taut, not sagging. Some nets in at-home volleyball sets are shorter than regulation length.

This is a nice feature for two-on-two or three-on-three games or for games with young children. The ball could have a rubbery texture or a harder exterior than an official volleyball.

For more enjoyable game play, you might want to substitute an official indoor or outdoor volleyball for the one that comes with your set. Pump: Many sets that include a ball often include an air pump , too. A properly inflated volleyball creates a more enjoyable playing experience and improves the lifespan of the ball. Carrying bag: All the equipment in the volleyball set fits inside an accompanying bag, making it easy to take your set anywhere.

These work nicely for semi-competitive outdoor games. Look for steel cable in the net. A high-quality net made for competitive play has steel cable inside the edges. This allows you to easily tighten the net and helps the net hold its shape. Cheaper sets have rope inside the edges of the net. Watch out for wind.

Set the net at the proper height. Check that you can adjust the height of the net in the volleyball set. Regulation net height for men is 7. For children ten and under, the net height is 7 feet for boys and 6. For an inexpensive portable volleyball set, the Goplus Portable Training Net is a nice choice. It has a net that adjusts between 2.

For an inexpensive set with a standard length net and good-quality equipment, we like the Triumph Sports Competition Volleyball Set. The net extends upward from a base that doubles as the carrying case. Will a portable volleyball set work for indoor play? Inexpensive portable sets like the ones we highlight are made more for recreational outdoor play. Players can adjust the height and tension of this style of net. The ball should only go about a meter high to allow for the middle to take their quicker approach.

Players that have a year or so under their belts up to high-level high school players should be running second tempo sets at a minimum. The hitter must be proficient at approaching sets to attack, as the time from set to strike is less than a slow tempo set. A second tempo offense is capable of beating blockers to the point of attack as the ball moves faster.

This division of sets has several to the outside hitters and a couple to the middle attacker. The ball should be set at or near a meter high and land within a meter inside of the antenna. The ball should be set at or near a meter high between the middle and outside hitter, to be attacked off the net. The players running the 31 will often fake a swing at this set as the left front hitter attacks it.

The set height and landing point are identical — just moved to a back set for the right side. The two in second tempo is similar to the two in third tempo, just set a bit lower and closer to the setter.

This set allows a quick attack from the middle hitter while allowing the middle to run a normal approach. There are some instances where the two is attacked by an outside hitter who has switched with the middle for rotational reasons or as part of a set play. As its name implies, offenses running first tempo sets are fast and proficient at most types of attack. It keeps the blockers moving and players attempting to dig attacks have a hard time finding the right angles.

Hitters should begin their approach for a first tempo set as the ball leaves the passer. The ball should travel almost parallel to the top of the net.

Volleyball Rally A rally is the time between the serve and the end of the play. In some volleyball terminology a rally is synonymous with volley. Volley A volley is keeping the ball in play and returning it to your opponent without committing any playing faults.

Rally Scoring When a match is played with the rule of sideout scoring, every rally results in a point being scored, either by the team serving or the team receiving. Side Out When the receiving team wins the rally it is called a side out. The receiving team then must rotate positions. Now they are the serving team. Sideout Scoring When a match is played with sideout scoring, a point is only scored by the team that is currently serving.

Volleyball Coach A coach is the person in charge of a team. Volleyball Referee The referee is the person controlling the flow of the match. Organized volleyball is played with two referees controlling the match. Overlap An overlap occurs when players are out of alignment.

Players must be in correct position on the court when the server is contacting the ball to serve. Free 2-day shipping Not at your store. Check nearby stores. Add for shipping. Sun Squad.
